I hope you have enjoyed your break. I'm looking forward to being back at school tomorrow. Here is what to look out for this week.
Tutoring
In the blog post last week, I said tutoring would resume Wednesday. It will actually resume on Tuesday of this week. I have a basketball game that night, but it is at home.
Field Trip Chaperones
I've created this document to help me identify who should chaperone each field trip. I will be providing a hard copy of this document on Monday. If you would like to attend either field trip as a chaperone, please complete this document--even if you have already emailed me. I want to do my best to have as many families represented as possible and be respectful of each person's preference and/or limitations. This document must be turned in by Wednesday.
Lessons
Grammar/Writing: In grammar this week, students will be looking at clauses, run-on sentences, sentence fragments, and complex sentences.
History: This week in history, the students will look at the French and Indian War and the European theater of the war called the Seven Years' War. They will have an open-notes test over chapters 1-5 on Thursday. They will also look at how the colonist, following their victory over the French, start to have a conflict with their mother country England.
Literature: Students will continue to read through Prince Caspian in literature.
Math: Students will finish up the measuring angles unit tomorrow and be tested on Tuesday. Following that unit, students will study perpendicular and parallel angles.
Greek and Latin Roots: Students will take a review check on roots 1-54 this week. Here is the Quizlet. I've embedded a game below.
Poetry: The poem students should we working toward memorization with this week is "Concord Hymn." Students will recite this poem during week three.
Science: Students will continue their study of geology this week in science. This week, the focus will be on types of plate boundaries: divergent, convergent, and transform. Students will also look at earthquakes and tsunamis. There is a geology quiz on Friday. Here are the study notes.
