It is hard to believe, but the semester is almost over! This week will be short with a full day on Monday and half days on Tuesday and Wednesday. It should be fun though.
Here is the schedule for the week, and then some important things going on this week.

No Clubs This Week
There are no clubs this week. Registration for clubs will be during week 1 of the third quarter.
Lessons
Writing/Grammar: There are no writing or grammar lessons this week.
History: Students will be reviewing the Middle Ages and Arizona history this week.
Literature: The students will continue reading through Prince Caspian.
Math: This week, the students will review math content learned this quarter.
Greek and Latin Roots: There are no roots activities this week.
Poem: The next poem for memorization is "Concord Hymn" by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I'll put the text for the poem below. Recitations will take place during week three of quarter three.
Science: There is a science lab on Monday. Students will then spend time looking at "The Impact of Humans on the Earth."
Spalding: There is no Spalding this week.
Shopping Bags
Students will be putting all of their items into bags to hang on the hooks for the break so the desks can be cleaned. Please send in one or two study shopping bags or four Walmart/Fries plastic bags.

Rocket Math Party
The Rocket Math party is for students who have passed all four rounds of Rocket Math. There is usually only one party for this at the end of the year, but I've been so impressed by the effort the students have given that I decided to give it twice. Students who are invited to this party will also be invited to the one next semester. This is the list of students who are invited to participate this semester. There may be additional students as they pass.

Hello 4B Parents!!
To celebrate the end of quarter 2, we will have a book exchange and a party on Wednesday, December 18th! Mr. Naak asked that our party be centered around Arizona as our scholars learned all about our great state.
Please see the link below to signup to bring items for our party. We would like to have a pizza party since it will be a half day, but need donations to make this happen. Book Exchange!! Please have your scholar bring in a wrapped "gently used" book into class on Wednesday. To participate, your scholar must bring in a wrapped book. I will have a couple extras for those that forget. We want everyone to participate!
Lastly, Beth and I will be presenting Mr. Naak and Mrs. Chilson with their holiday gifts on behalf of those that donated to the teacher fund. We can't wait to spoil our teachers. We will send out what we gave them.

Rocket Math Party

Xtra Math
Mr. Gillingham wanted to put a big emphasis on math facts this year, and Mrs. Lynch launched the Xtra Math program. This has been a huge blessing to our math facts memorization. I had already brought in some old cell phones; and then on Thanksgiving evening, I purchased a few tablets for the class to use to do Xtra Math. The results have been very encouraging. 4B already has seven students who have passed all four operations. Congratulations to Aidan P, Aiden A, Momo M, Diego R, Levi H, Kaelyn C, and Patrick T on their achievement. Those students have now moved on to the second challenge, which is to memorize all of the operations up to the 12's facts and be able to solve the problem within 1.5 seconds.
