Greetings Families,
There are only four weeks of school left. It is flying by. Let me start with a note from Ms. Weddle, the fourth-grade music teacher, and then I'll get into the lessons for the week and a few other important notes.
Note from Ms. Weddle - The Concert Is Wednesday @ 6:30 p.m.
Lessons
Writing/Grammar: Students will look at narrative writing and personal letters. For homework this week, students will write their own personal narrative and a letter to someone they know.
History: Students will continue their study of the first six American presidents. This week, they will look at Adams, Jefferson, and Madison.
Literature: In literature, students will continue their journey with Dorothy and her friends.
Math: We fell behind in math last week with the history presentations. This week, students will learn review area and perimeter and apply it to composite figures.
Poem: Students will begin their study of the last poem of the year: “George Washington” by
Rosemary and Stephen Vincent Benet.
2019/2020 Shoe Policy

Note from Ms. Weddle - The Concert Is Wednesday @ 6:30 p.m.
Our Spring Concert is this week! It will be at Higley Center for the Performing Arts on May 1st. Students’ attire for our performances is NOT the school uniform. Gentlemen are expected to wear a plain white dress shirt, black pants, black socks, and black closed toed shoes. Solid dark colored vests and ties are optional for gentlemen. Ladies are expected to wear a white top, black skirt, black tights, and black closed toed shoes. Please have your 4th-graders at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts by 6:30pm.

Lessons

Greek and Latin Roots: Students will take a review check on the 91st-93rd Greek and Latin root. Students should be studying all their Greek and Latin roots on a regular basis as they will be taking the Greek and Latin roots quiz over all one hundred they've learned this year during week nine.
Science: Students will end their study of the cardiovascular system and will be tested on Wednesday. On Thursday, students will be taking their field trip to A.T. Still University. On Friday, they will start their study of the respiratory system.
Spalding: Students will learn thirty new words this week.
No Tutoring This Week
There will be no tutoring this week. On Tuesday, I will be leaving right after school, if not a little before, for my middle school girls basketball game as the team has made it to the quarterfinals. There is no tutoring on Wednesday because the concert is that night.
Field Trip Thursday
There are still a few students who have not turned in their permission slips and money for the field trip. Please get the form and money in as soon as possible. If it is your desire for your student to not participate in the field trip, please let me know by email. Students who have not turned in their form and payment will spend the morning in a fifth-grade classroom working on something quietly.
Last Week of Clubs
May 6-10 is the last week of clubs.
2019/2020 Shoe Policy
This has been posted in the school newsletter a number of times, and I want to make sure you are aware because it is a big change. Please note the uniform shoe policy for the 2019/2020 school year will be as follows:
Style: Athletic (tennis, Keds)
Color: Solid black (including black soles and laces)
Thank you for all of the hard work you put in on behalf of your child. Their success in school is largely dependent on the care, instruction, and discipline provided at home. I am blessed to have a classroom full of students who come from loving and supportive homes which enable them to excel at school. Penny War
This is the last week for those interested in participating in the Penny War. If you have spare change lying around, you can allow your child to donate it in a competitive way.
