As you no doubt heard, 4B took gold in Arete's fifth Athletic Field Day. I'm very proud of my class's effort and the way they encouraged one another. I think my favorite event was the tug of war. Probably the most difficult event because of the stress on your hands and legs, I could see the fight in their eyes to not give up and quick. They just kept pulling and pulling. They had relentless effort and even in pain, they remained relentlessly positive. Here are some pictures. Please send more if you have some you would like added.
Given their tremendous effort, I canceled homework for the weekend. This led to me pushing the planned science test back to Tuesday. We reviewed the study guide on Thursday so they should be prepared. Here is the Quizlet if you would like your child to use it.

Field Trip Chaperones
Our field trip will be next Monday, February 11, 2019. We will be going to the Captial Museum. If you are interested in attending as a chaperone, please send me an email. You must have fingerprint clearance to attend as a chaperone. There are a limited number of spots available. The selection will be random if there are more volunteers than needed.
If you are not selected as a chaperone, you may still attend the trip if you like. The only downside is that you will not be able to ride the bus, and you may not be able to go on the museum tour. However, you can join us for the scavenger hunt and lunch time for certain.
Lessons
Grammar/Writing: This week, students will spend time reviewing all of the grammar content they learned during the first semester. We will spend time reviewing Monday-Wednesday. There is a grammar test Thursday.
History: In history this week, students will learn about how the conflict between the colonists and Britain turns to war. There is a quiz Thursday. The quiz will be open-notes, but here are the study questions if you would like to review with your child.

Literature: Students will finish their reading of Prince Caspian and start Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. Please have your child bring Carry On, Mr. Bowditch before Thursday.
Math: The class will continue its study of decimals. They are now focusing on the hundreds place. Here is the study guide they will receive before the test so you can get an idea of what their next test will cover.

Greek and Latin Roots: There will be a short review check this week on roots 61-63.
Poetry: Students should spend time each night studying "Paul Revere's Ride." This is a long poem. Students who apply themselves regularly to this poem should be capable of memorizing this poem, but it will be hard work. Students who try to memorize this poem the week or weekend before will likely become frustrated and think it is too hard. They might even think it is unfair. Please encourage them to give effort every night. Here is a reading of the poem to support them.
Science: As noted above, the geology midterm has been pushed to Tuesday. I linked a Quizlet above. This week students will read about the importance of mountains and learn about rocks. There is a life science review quiz on Thursday.
Spalding: Students will learn twenty words on Monday and Tuesday, review on Thursday, and be assessed on Thursday.
