Greetings Families,
It is hard to believe that this is the last week of the semester. We are almost halfway through the year. This week will be a little different due to its shortness. There are no tests an quizzes this week, but there will be homework on Monday night. There will be no homework on Tuesday night and the break starts Wednesday and is an R&R. I will provide an optional winter break packet for students interested in completing it. The same rules will apply. Students who complete any of it will receive extra credit for what they complete. Students who complete the whole packet will be invited to a pizza lunch.
Needs
Over the break, the cleaning crew will be cleaning the inside of the students' desk. Therefore, every student needs to bring in four plastic shopping bags or two more heavy duty reusable bags. Students will bring their reusable bags home after the break.
Winter Party
Students will be enjoying the winter party this Wednesday. Ms. Allgood has sent a number of emails out about this. I hope to see you there.
Lessons
Math: Students will learn about the last concert of the semester. They will learn how to add and subtract mixed numbers when regrouping is necessary. I had hoped to do it last week, but we dedicated all of our time reviewing learned content in preparation for the Unit 1-3 Cumulative Test. Here is an example that I put on the blog last week.

3 6/4 - 2 3/4 = 1 3/4

Science: Students will finish their study of how humans have negatively impacted the environment and how we can work to minimize our negative impact.
History: Students will complete their timeline activity. This activity will help us review most of the major dates we learned about this semester.
Literature: Students will have a discussion on plot and whether Robin Hood was a hero or a villain.
Spalding: There is Spalding this week due to the short week.
Writing/Grammar: Students will write about their own experiences at fourth graders during the first semester and set goals for themselves to work on in the second semester.
Poetry: Students have completed poetry for the semester.
Greek and Latin Roots: Students have completed Greek and Latin roots for the semester.
