I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I'm looking forward to next week as it will hopefully be a little more normal than this week with Monday off and Grandparents Day Friday. However, I want to say how thankful I am for all the grandparents who came in on Friday. It was great getting to hear from them about how life was different when they were children and about what responsibility and citizenship mean to them.
Here are the lessons for this week.
History: This week in history, students will continue their study of the Byzantine Empire studying mosaics, Empress Theodora, and the Hagia Sophia. They will write an essay on the Empress and the church. There is a quiz on the Byzantine Empire unit. Additionally, students will be tested on their knowledge of the countries of Europe on Tuesday. Please ensure that they are studying for this during the weekend.
Science: This week in science, students will use their lab observations to solidify their understanding of circuits. By the end of the week, students will be able to explain how a series circuit is different from a parallel circuit, and the advantages of parallel circuits in building a home. Students will take the Electricity Unit Exam on Thursday. You can find the quizlet for this exam here.
Language Arts: This week, in language arts, students will continue to deepen their understanding of sentence classification and sentence diagramming. Students will be able to use adverbs and adjectives properly in sentences. There is a quiz Friday in grammar. Students should use their notebooks to study the parts of speech, the questions for adverbs and adjectives, and how to properly label and diagram sentences with a verb, subject noun, adjectives, and adverbs. In literature, the mystery surrounding Great Grandma Irene is revealed. In Spalding, students will do more words, with more markings.
Math: Students will begin the unit on order of operations in math. They will be quizzed on this material on Monday of week 7. If your child struggles with this unit, click here to watch the Khan Academy lessons on the topic.
