I hope your family is already enjoying their weekend. We had another successful week in 4B. The students are slowly starting to get to know me and my quirks. I'm looking forward to seeing them again on Monday.
As I expect you know, Monday will be a little crazy with the eclipse. And by crazy, I mean wild and a lot of fun. Hopefully, you have seen the email from Mr. Gillingham inviting you to attend the event with your child. Our time outside is from 10:45-10:55 a.m. Please sign-in at the front desk and find us in the common area in the middle of all the buildings. If you do not plan to come, please make sure you send the permission slip in with your child. Children without a permission slip will not be permitted to participate.
Here are the lessons for next week.
History: Students will be wrapping up their study of geography and maps this week with a unit example. Students should have brought their study guides home to study over the weekend. However, I also like to provide quizlets for these examples. In the future, you can find the history Quizlets and other resources here. However, for this test, I'll just put up the Quizlet here. After the exam, they will begin studying Europe. They will create their own maps of the countries and waterways. These will be memorized. We enter our study of Europe in the Middle Ages. This is a major unit of history. Studies begin at the fall of the Roman Empire. Students will explore the Dark Ages.
Science: Students will continue the study of chemistry. Having arrived at an understanding of the periodic table, students will now consider what happens when different elements mix. They have a brief quiz on Monday. The final unit test will be on Thursday. Students should study their notebooks in preparation for this assessment. In addition to their notes, students may also access science unit Quizlets here. The Quizlet for chemistry can be found here. You can also find helpful videos that we watch in class and some additional ones here.
Language Arts: Spalding phonics continues. In grammar, students will master the noun and verb, and begin classifying and diagramming sentences. In Literature, they go deeper into the mines with Curdie and Princess Irene. This week, students discuss characterization.
Math: Students will begin a unit on multiples and factors. There will be nightly homework, and much work dedicated to the multiplication tables. On Friday, students will take a quiz on factors.
