Quarter 3, Week 9 Lessons

Greetings Families,

It is hard to believe that the end of the third quarter is upon us. This will be an important week for students and it is important that they receive encouragement to put in the work necessary to perform well. There will be two math tests this week: multiplying decimals and dividing decimals. There will be a geology test and a Greek and Latin's Roots quiz. Please ensure that students are studying as is appropriate for your family.

Here are the lessons for week nine.

Lessons

Science: During the final week of the quarter, students will discuss the different layers of soil. They will spend the latter part of the week writing an essay comparing and contrasting the processes that change the earth’s surface. They will be given two phenomena that bring change to the earth’s surface with one being quick, such as an earthquake, and the other slow, such as a drought.

There will also be an exam on Thursday. Students should be reviewing their notes nightly in preparation for this test. As this is the only test of the quarter, it alone is worth 45% of the students’ grade. There is a quiz Monday on geology as well. The geology quizzes given this quarter should also be used to help students prepare for the test. You can also find the Quizlet here

Math: In math this week, the students will look at multiplying and dividing decimals. They will take two math quizzes this week. They will be tested on multiplying decimals on Tuesday and dividing decimals on Friday.

Language Arts: The most significant thing taking place this week in language arts is the Greek and Latin roots quiz. You can find the Quizlet here. Students should have the first 75 roots memorized. The roots quiz will take place on Wednesday. Spalding will follow the usual pattern. Students will also be looking at poetry for a second week.

History: In history, students will continue to learn about the developments of the American Revolution. This week's lessons will involve the crossing of the Delaware and Saratoga. The test originally scheduled for this week has been pushed back to the fourth quarter.
