Greetings Families,
I hope everyone is well and is enjoying their weekend. On Friday, the students had their first opportunity to experience AzMERIT. They all seemed to handle the pressure well and I look forward to hearing how they are doing. We have two weeks off until the next installment. If for some reason your child is ill on a testing day, please don't feel like you need to force them into coming. We have makeup days and I would rather see them do well than to see them try to do something they aren't physically up to. It has been a joy being their teacher this year and I hope their AzMERIT performance resembles the effort and progress they have made this year.
Here are the assessments for the week and the lessons.
Monday: Math (Time and Multiplication Properties)
Wednesday: Science (Astronomy)
Thursday: Spalding
Language Arts: We will have a 20 word Spalding list with our test being on Thursday as Friday is a half day. We're reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and everyone is enchanted with the book so far. In grammar will will be reviewing clauses and classifying sentences.
Math: During the third week, students start the week by being assessed on time and multiplication properties. They will then have an opportunity to consider area and measurements.
Science: During the third week, students will be exploring the moon by reading part of an eBook created by the National Science Teachers Association. We will have a quiz on Wednesday over previous material, and we will discuss and make observations about eclipses on Friday.
History: This week we will continue our exploration of the original 13 colonies. We will be learning more about Jamestown and the Virginia colony. We will be learning more about the real story of Pocahontas which coincides nicely with our current poem. We will be discussing cash crops and their role in the Southern Colonies. Additionally, we will be creating a timeline of pictures for the important events in this unit!
