Quarter 1, Week 7 Lessons

Greetings Families,

The end of the quarter is quickly approaching. Two more weeks until school is out for fall break. With that we have our Little House on the Prairie themed celebration on October 1. You can expect to see an email and SignUpGenius from the class parents some time next week. There will be a number of opportunities to volunteer and to provide items for the celebration. I hope to see many of you there.

We are also in need of more classroom volunteers. A SignUpGenius was sent out for reading groups and I we are still in need of more math centers leaders. Please see the online signup for reading groups and email me or the classroom parents if you would like to volunteer for math centers.

Quarter 1, Week 7 Lessons

Math

We will continue working on two-step word problems with bar models and review for our assessment on Thursday.  We will then begin our next unit on multiplication Friday. Over the weekend, students are being asked to solve a number of word problems using the six parts of bar modeling. Ms. Caro, the 3C lead teacher, has completed the homework herself with models and has shared her work to help parents help their children. I will be sharing these images on a different post following this one. The modeling looks a little different then how I teach it, but it is basically the same and the students should understand them. You can find that post here.

Science

We will review animal classification and take our assessment.  Please ensure students are working on their study guides from their notes over the weekend. We will then begin our next unit on ecology.

History

We will continue learning about our neighbor to the north, Canada!  This week we will be learning about the history of Canada and begin to learn about the different provinces/territories in Canada.  We will do an activity to create our own totem poles.  Please continue to work on your Canada project at home, which is due on Tuesday, September 29th.

Language Arts

Poetry

We will continue working on our poem, “The Song of Mr. Toad”.  Recitations are Thursday October 1st.  Please continue practicing with your scholar at home!

Grammar

In grammar we will be working on sentence blueprints and power words/adjectives!

Writing

In writing we will continue reading and summarizing The Story of the World text.  We will be summarizing stories on “The First Writing” and “Making Mummies”.

Literature

In Literature we will continue reading the Little House on the Prairie.  We will be starting Pinocchio after fall break, so please make sure your child has his or her copy at school by October 12th.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,

Michael Naaktgeboren
