Greetings Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed their three-day weekend last week and we have another one coming up this week, well students do at least. It has been a joy getting to know the students a little better each week. It is amazing how unique each student is. Some students who are a little quieter during class can be quite characters at lunch. It has also been great getting to play dodgeball with the students and to see how good some of them are.
Here are the lessons for the week and some other important information.
Important Dates
Picture day is Tuesday, September 15th.
We have no school on Friday, September 18th. This is a teacher in-service day. I hope your scholars enjoy another three-day weekend!
There is a history project coming home and the project is due on Tuesday, September 29th.
The goal will be to start math centers on Wednesday, September 23rd. If interested in volunteering, email the classroom volunteers or me.

Lessons
Langauge Arts
Literature - We will continue reading Little House on the Prairie. We are having wonderful discussions in class related to the novel. I think the students are really enjoying this book!
Poetry - We will continue practicing the poem “The Song of Mr. Toad”. The recitation day will be on Thursday, October 1st.
Spalding - We have another short week of Spalding (There is no review day because of the 4-day week). Please review homework as usual, but spend extra time each night in preparation for Thursday's test.
Writing and Grammar - We will continue reading the Story of the Word to practice summarizing. We will also learn about adverbs and how to diagram sentences with adverbs!
Math
We will be continuing our unit on addition and subtraction. We will also continue solving word problems with bar models, and even begin to tackle two-step word problems without the steps given.
History
We will be starting our exciting unit on our neighbor to the north, Canada, next week! We will be learning about the difference and similarities between Canada and America, as well as learning about the native peoples of Canada.
Science
For science we will be continuing our exciting unit on animal classification. The students are really excited about this unit! After our quiz on Monday we will be looking into amphibians, mammals, and birds.
