Dear Families,
I want to start by congratulating our scholars on finishing their first poetry recitation. I was very impressed! Each showed great courage standing before a class and their efforts paid off.
We will start a new poem next week, so please start working on the recitation after the R&R weekend.
Introduction: I would like to introduce the parent coordinators, or class parents, Amiee Newburgh-Dugan and Pamela Tipescu. They have graciously volunteered to serve our class and parents this year. I am meeting with them Tuesday to develop a plan for classroom volunteers, other volunteer opportunities, and other activities.
Announcement: Singapore/Spalding night is no longer being held on September 9th. Please take that date off of your calendars. As soon as we reschedule I will let you know the date and time of this important event.

We will continue reading Little House on the Prairie, chapters 15-18, “Fever ‘n’ Ague,” “Fire in the Chimney,” “Pa Goes to Town,” and “The Tall Indian!” This week we will begin reading groups for parent volunteers. Our first reading group will be this Thursday, “The Tall Indians.” During the meeting with the parent coordinators, we will discuss what these will look like and we should have a signup and description by Wednesday. I know this is short notice, so if we lack volunteers this week, it will be okay.

We will be focusing on pronouns, commas, and exclamation marks. We will also be working on summarizing. In addition, we will begin sentence diagraming and sentence classification!

Our new poem is “The Song of Mr. Toad” and can be found in your Harp and Laurel books on page 46. We will be reviewing the poem each day in class. Please work on the poem each night to get students prepared for our next poetry recitation.

Math
After reviewing and taking our quiz on adding, subtracting, comparing, estimating, and bar models, we will begin our next math unit. On Thursday and Friday, we will be adding and subtracting 4digit numbers!
History
History
We will be finishing up our Geography unit and have our next quiz on Friday. Expect directions for a project on the unit we will begin the week after on Canada!
Science
Science
We will continue our science unit on animal classification this week. We will be focusing in on fish and reptiles.
