The year has started and with it the homework. I know some students are already surprised by the amount of homework each night and it will only increase. As the time goes on, most students will adjust quickly and find homework an enjoyable part of their evenings.
I did want to inform you on how homework would be graded, especially the Spalding assignments which will usually be every night. Assignments are worth five points each and the rubric for that grading is completion, on time, name on paper, accuracy, and neatness. If homework is not complete, the first recess is used to complete any missing assignments and it is treated as late, thus having a maximum score of a 4/5.
Please encourage your students to take good notes in their planners so they don't forget their homework assignments. It is also advised that you check your child's planners and yellow folders to ensure that they are doing their homework appropriately. Over time, this need will likely decrease, and many students probably already have the responsibility necessary to preform well.
Lastly, homework is their responsibility. You may choose to help them pack their backpacks for school, but the responsibility for it being turned in is on them. We will not accept parent negligence as an excuse for homework not being completed and turned in on time.
