I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend. Below are the lessons for the week.
Language Arts
Poem
"The Song of Mr. Toad," by Kenneth Grahame
Idiom
"One rotten apple spoils the whole barrel."
Spalding
Spalding this week will be the normal spelling list and phonogram review.
Writing
The students will be doing two summarization exercises, a dictation exercise, and a comprehension exercise. Please continue to discuss the books your child is reading at home, as this will help them develop critical thinking skills and the ability to put their thoughts into words.
Grammar
Students will learn the principles behind writing a letter.
Literature
Students will be discussing "Rikki-tikki-tavi" and "Darzee's Chaunt." On Wednesday there are reading groups for "Toomai of the Elephants" and "Shiv the Grasshopper."
Math
Last week students were introduced to the customary measurement of capacity or volume. On Wednesday they will be assessed. Like other customary measurements, it can become confusing because it is not based on ten. Therefore, I would encourage you in down time, like driving, quiz students. 1 gallon equals 4 quarts. 1 quart equals 2 pints. 1 pint equals 2 cups. We are not dealing with ounces.
History
In history the students are continuing their research writing project. We will introduce the term plagiarism and explain why it is wrong.
Science
In science we are finishing up our study of light and will spend a day looking at the major parts of the eye. The students will take their test over light and the eye next week.
