Quarter 3, Week 8 Lessons

Greetings Parents,

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. We are headed into Week 8 and only have three weeks of this quarter left. Here are the lessons for this week.

Language Arts

Poem

“The Charge of the Light Brigade,” by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Spalding

We will be doing the normal spelling quiz on Friday with a review of the phonograms. We will also be taking a formative assessment on Thursday. This will not be used for the grade book, but to assess if students are remembering words previously learned.

Writing and Grammar

The students will be reviewing many of the grammatical lessons they have learned throughout the year and continuing to improve their summarizing ability. We will also be focusing on comprehension skills and correctly answering questions about a text.

Literature

The students will be taking a quiz over chapters three and four, “Tiger! Tiger” and “The White Seal,” of The Jungle Book on Tuesday. Students should have started reviewing over the weekend and we will review on Monday as well.

Math

The students are reviewing the metric measurement of capacity, or volume, liters and milliliters, with a focus on adding and subtracting compound units and solving in word problems. The students will be given a quiz over this on Thursday. On Friday, students will be introduced to customary measurements of capacity.

History

We began our research project on Friday with identifying the two resources that will be used. Each student selected at least one Internet and one book source. This week students will begin finding important facts and take notes about their assigned explorer. These notes will be used to build the essay students will write next week.

Science

The class has been making observations and discoveries about light. This week the students will understand how a prism allows white light to be broken up into different colors. Tuesday, the students will review their notes, and they will be assessed on Thursday.
