First, I just want to thank the many who made the class social at the park such a wonderful time. It was great to be able to talk and play with you and your children. I am very blessed to have a class like I have and to have parents like you. You truly make my job a delight. Thank you.
Here are the lesson for this week.
Science
We are continuing to look at the human skeleton. On Wednesday, the students will have a short quiz over the major bones of the human body. We will also be looking at the results of our experiment: what happens when a bone is soaked in vinegar.
History
In history, we are looking at the government of ancient Rome. The students also brought home a "take home quiz." Here is a short message Ms. Hervas, the developer of our history curriculum, gave to her parents about the project.

Math
This week we are reviewing multiplication and division with a focus on the number 6. In class yesterday, every student had a chance to come to the board and solve multiplication problems. A major issue that is still facing a number of our students is a weak knowledge of the multiplication facts. Though we work on these in class, the memorization of multiplication and division facts is really something that needs to be taking place at home. Please ensure that your child is working towards that end. Many have, but many are still struggling.
Language Arts
Idiom: "Get up on the wrong side of the bed"
Poem: "At the Seaside," by Robert Louis Stevenson
Spalding: Even though we have a short week, we are still learning 30 words. That means students will learn new words on Thursday that will be tested on Friday.
Pinocchio: Yesterday we had a good time discussing why "honest is the best policy" and creating a memorable craft to reinforce that truth. We will be reading and discussing as a class chapters 19-22.
Writing and Grammar: Students are continuing to develop their awareness of important content in a story and how to identify the central narrative thread. Students will also be learning the major parts of a command sentence by diagramming.

I wanted to let you know that I am sending home a take home quiz for Roman gods and goddesses. This quiz is not due until Friday November 14th. The idea behind the quiz is to teach students how to complete basic research either in a library or on a home computer. If you are doing the research on a home computer I have found a student friendly site (http://greece.mrdonn.org/greekgods/greekandromangods.html) that you may use if you wish. My hope is that this will be fun for the student.
