I hope everyone is having a great week. Here are the lessons for the week.
Language Arts
Poem: "I'm glad"
Idiom: "Easier said than done"
Spalding: This week we are learning how to add ending that begin with a vowel to base words. We will also have a short test on Friday for spelling words and phonograms.
Literature: We have begun our reading of Pinocchio.
Writing and Grammar: Students are continuing to refine their ability to summarize a short piece of literature and focusing on diagramming in grammar.
Science
We are starting our study of the human body. This week we are addressing cells as the basic structural unit of all organisms, while focusing on their presence in the human body. We will also be discussing tissue, organs, and the systems in the human body.
History
We are finishing up our study of rivers this week by discussing their importance and benefits, and the major rivers of the world. We are also discussing other geographical features. On Friday, the students will be assessed on rivers. They will be bringing home a study guide on Wednesday.
Math
Students are continuing their study of multiplication. The difficulty is ramping up quickly, so please ensure that your child is working on memorizing their multiplication facts if they haven't already. They will be learning how to multiply up to four digit numbers by two digit numbers.
The second quarter is underway and I have decided to make some changes in the tutoring schedule. Though all subjects present challenges, none are as difficult for many students as math. Therefore, starting next week, we will have math tutoring on Monday and Wednesday. Language arts tutoring will be on Tuesday. History tutoring will be on Thursday. Science tutoring will be on Friday. If your child is struggling in Math, as will be identifiable by their scores on the last math test, you may send your child to tutoring. If he or she scored a D or F on the last math test, less than 70%, he or she may come twice a week. If a child scored a C or better, 70% and better, I would ask that the child only come once a week.
