Here is what we will be learning together this week.
Language Arts
Idiom: "Cold feet"
Poem: "The Tragic Story," by William Makepeace Thackeray
Spalding
Cursive. Cursive. Cursive. Last week I stressed the importance of wring our manuscript letters neatly and correctly. Today, students are reaping the reward or curse of their efforts. From now on, all written assignments will be done is cursive so it is important that they take their nightly writing assignments seriously and do their best. These should be done while sitting at a table.
Literature
This week we are reading chapters eight and nine of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The students will also be bringing home a study packet for the test we will have on Friday of next week. The directions for this assignment are on the packet.
Writing and Language
We are continuing our development of writing and language skills. Part of learning to write involves being able to summarize what students have read. Each night when you fill out their reading log, have them give you a short summary to help in this development. We are also learning how to diagram sentences. Students should now be able to tell you what a noun is and how to make it plural. They should have their pronouns memorized. Students should be able to identify a verb and an adjective.
History
For history, students are continuing to learn about maps and geographical features. This week students will address items like oasis, coast, harbor, channel, island and more.
Science
This week students are focusing their attention on reptiles and birds. They have a quiz tomorrow over fish and amphibians.

TRAFFIC
The MPR has been a little loud and crazy during pickup time. Part of the reason is a lack of accountability because students are located by name instead of by class. Thus, we are correcting that. Students will be transitioned to a new location and seated with their class. It is important that you place the new name plates in your vehicles soon. If the plate does not have the child's grade and section on it, we will not know where to locate them.
